A Practical Method for Weak Stationarity Test of Network Traffic with Long-Range Dependence

چکیده
Testing the stationarity of real traffic remains a problem worth studying. Due to the importance of traffic theory in the Internet, to find a solution to such a problem brooks no delay. This paper presents a way to do the weak stationarity test of traffic with long-range dependence (LRD) as a single history traffic series of finite length. How to apply this method to real traffic on a packet-by-packet basis is demonstrated. Key-Words: Network traffic; Long-Range Dependence; Stationarity Test; Autocorrelation function.

Implications of Non-Stationarity of MPEG2 Video Traffic
Based on n formal stotidicd test, this paper calls the assumption of weak sfdionamity of variable bit rate (VBR) video lrafic into question. The observed long-range dependence of VBR traffic is explained by shifling level processes. These processes are non-stationary on any finite lime scale but converge to weak stotionarity in ihe long run. Based on shifting level processes II new Irafic model...
متن کاملTraffic Signal Prediction Using Elman Neural Network and Particle Swarm Optimization
Prediction of traffic is very crucial for its management. Because of human involvement in the generation of this phenomenon, traffic signal is normally accompanied by noise and high levels of non-stationarity. Therefore, traffic signal prediction as one of the important subjects of study has attracted researchers’ interests. In this study, a combinatorial approach is proposed for traffic signal...
متن کاملCharacterizing Non-stationarity in the Presence of Long-range Dependence
Based on ours and other studies, it is becoming evident that Internet traffic is often nonstationary. Since such traffic is generally found to be long-range dependent as well, and the two properties can get confused, it is important to have a method for separately characterizing them. This paper proposes such a methodology aimed specifically for traffic scenarios where nonstationarity comes int...
متن کاملMeasuring Long-Range Dependence under Changing Traffic Conditions
Recent measurements of various types of network traffic have shown evidence consistent with long-range dependence and self-similarity. However, an alternative explanation for these measurements is non-stationarity. Standard estimators of LRD parameters such as the Hurst parameter H assume stationarity and are susceptible to bias when this assumption does not hold. Hence LRD may be indicated by ...
متن کاملNew Results in Multifractal Traffic Analysis and Modeling
An alternative but very promising approach of traffic modeling is the use of fractal characterization to describe the high variability and bursty nature of network traffic. The aim of this dissertation is to contribute to this research approach, more precisely, to solve some problems in statistical testing, traffic characterization, modeling, and performance evaluation. First, the implications ...
